Course Summary:

This interactive course will engage all participants in dialogue and activities that will address various types of mental illnesses to include the indicators, causes, and substance induced psychotic disorders. Participants will learn the difference between mental illness myths vs. mental illness facts. Definitions as appropriate and relevant to each section of this course will be discussed and applied during course discussion and exercise (i.e., assessment, competence, depression, suicide, anxiety, psychosis, intervention, etc.) Participants will learn about tools used to assess mental illness. A knowledge-based self-assessment quiz will be completed by participants. This course includes video clips relative to mentally ill youth offenders will be shown. Within groups selected by the instructor, participants will discuss responses to those with mental illness. Current office policies, standard business practices used to respond to mentally ill youth offenders, to include the resources and interventions
